4. Florals

Have you ever looked into my closet? Well for me florals are a staple not a trend. So it makes me so happy to know I can shop and find all kinds of pretty floral things. Again I think we can attribute this to the 90’s, I remember my love for florals growing strong then.  Shopping for cute dresses, shorts and tops that had floral print on them, just think… Limited Too! It just makes me feel girly & romantic and at times even edgy; it all depends on the type of floral. So I’m a happy girl knowing that anything you can put florals on has it! Trust me even if you are not into prints owning a floral piece will add romanticism to your closet. Here are some cute and under $50 floral pieces to incorporate this trend into your closet.

We get to wear something else besides skinny.  Either way bell sleeves are here and perfect for spring. Here are some cute and under $50 bell sleeve pieces to incorporate this trend into your closet.

6. Overalls

Overalls. Enough said. They have been around in one shape or form throughout every decade, but again very strong in the 90’s.  I remember owning different types of overalls, shorts, pants, white, floral, skirt and yes I loved every minute of it.  They were so comfortable! However, I will not lie, they make me a bit nervous now.  The last time I wore them I was a teeny skinny teenager. Though I am very tempted to buy some I’m scared, help! Therefore, this style board is here to inspire me as much as you. Here are some cute and under $50 overall pieces to incorporate this trend into your closet.

5 Tips for Throwing a Great Gatsby – 1920’s Party

As many of you know or if you have been following, I had a Great Gatsby birthday party in January.  It was so much fun! So here I will highlight and help you have one of your own…

Gold, black and pearls should be everywhere!

First you have to decide if you will be having your party at your house or at a hall.  This will dictate how much you spend on decorations.  If you choose your home you can go overboard with decorations starting days in advance.  I chose a hall where I only had 30 minutes before the party to decorate! Therefore, I kept it simple.  This is why it was very important for me to focus on a few details.  Everything was black, white and gold. I focused on the tables and hung a few decorations from the ceiling and the walls. Be sure to have a cool background for pictures.

In the 1920’s there was no e-mail, e-vites or Facebook invites, there was snail mail.  Mail your invitations! It will begin to set the mood for your party.  I had my invitations made through and they came out great! Plus, it was a great way to add formality to my event which is what I wanted. Also, who doesn’t love looking at the mail and finding something else besides junk mail and bills.

While we are on the topic of mailing things, don’t forget to send “thank you” notes after your party especially if you asked people to dress up.  I bought a stack of thank you notes and hand-wrote all of them…your hand will hurt!

You have to make a decision on whether or not you want your guests to wear 1920’s attire.  I knew from the beginning that I did (this would add to my decor and it can to yours too!).  I noted it on the invitation and when people asked I made sure to tell them they could go as simple as they wanted. Then I provided some inspiration on my blog and social media. Either way, I recommend that the host always dresses up. It will truly make a statement and encourage others to participate.

Amazon made it so easy for most people to go all out for my party.  I was amazed at the way people showed up everyone looked so 1920’s! Big shout out to Vijiv where most of my guests found incredible dresses for less than $50!

If you are looking for more ideas or inspiration ready my previous post on What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Party or Pinterest.

Drinks & Food

If your party will be at your house you can create a menu to fit the 1920’s theme. However, if it will be at a hall or you are using a caterer, then this may be a bit hard.  I went with catering.  I catered my food from El Solazo and it was delicious plus stress-free.

As far as drinks, I created a drink station where I made a Whiskey Sour Punch placed in a vintage punch bowl. It was a hit and delicious   I also provided tequila, whiskey, vodka, beer and wine. Again this is a place where you can get as creative as you want.

Be sure to play some jazzy tunes and 1920’s music.  If your party will be low-key and more of a cocktail party, you can play this the whole time. My party turned out to be a dance party! While I would have been OK dancing to 1920’s tunes, I had to consider my guests, so I had a DJ (DJ Mojo) play songs from The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack and then switch to a variety of music.  There were people on the dance floor all night long!

Overall this is such a fun theme.  Be sure to start planning early and getting all your things together.  Goodwill, vintage stores and Amazon where the best places to purchase everything and Pinterest was the best place for inspiration. I hope this helps you plan the perfect 1920’s party.  I cannot imagine a better theme to help me say good-bye to my 20’s!

Super Bowl Sunday Funday

Super Bowl weekend is here!  Let me start with a confession… football is NOT my favorite sport, I prefer futbol. However, I do enjoy watching a game here and there, rooting for a team and Super Bowl Sunday. But I’m usually more excited for the halftime show and commercials. Oh and for snacks! This year I’m making chili.

This year’s halftime show

When the rumors were out that this year’s halftime show was going to be Adele, I was disappointed.  I love Adele but I couldn’t picture a halftime show full of love songs, mainly break ups… um, depressing. Then, it was finally announced that Lady Gaga would be at the Super Bowl LI and I was so excited! She is full of energy, creative, artsy, talented, I could go on. Last year, she did amazing singing the National Anthem so I can just picture what she will do during a half time show. Well deserved Gaga!

This year’s teams

The Patriots and the Falcons will be playing each other, I’m not a fan of either. Instead, I will be rooting for Lady Gaga.  OK maybe a little for the Patriots because who doesn’t have a crush on Jimmy Garoppolo (pictured above)? Rumor has it he may be coming to the Chicago Bears!  Anyway, while everyone will be wearing  their football gear, I will be wearing my Gaga gear.  This year I will be full-on Team Gaga cheering for her during the halftime show.

So for all those people who will be Team Gaga over anything this weekend, here is some outfit inspiration…

What will you be wearing for Super Bowl Sunday?

What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Party

At some point we will all be invited to or plan a 1920’s theme party.  Either you’re really excited for the theme or you dread it because you don’t know what to wear. Here is some inspiration for both guys and dolls.

Dolls First

The most popular look of the decade is “the flapper” look.  To pull it off a sheath type dress is perfect paired with sparkles, pearls and the perfect headpiece.

Great Gatsby Party

Dress & Shoes

Choose sheath style dresses. Fabrics like silk, lace, chiffon along with sequence and beading. T-straps or Mary Janes were the usual shoes of the decade, but anything fun, sparkling, and festive will work as well.

This is where you get to have fun! Plenty of pearls and diamonds (or rhinestones) for necklaces and bracelets. Choose long necklaces or nice chunky necklaces and match your earrings.  Wear a fun and big headpiece or rhinestone comb or pin. Don’t forget the gloves or fun cocktail rings!

Hair & Make Up

Have fun and be bold! Go for a smoky dramatic eye and a red shade of lipstick. For the hair, of course a bob would be ideal. But if you cannot commit to chopping your hair for a night, then try pin curls or a loose up-do.

Now the Guys

Guys kept it classy but also went a bit more casual in comparison to previous eras.  Just think of Jay Gatsby.  His style was superb! Here is some inspiration.

Men's Roaring 20's Outfit Ideas

A suit works wonders, but you can mix it up.  You can go for a full tux, three piece suit, a vest and dress pants, dress pants and suspenders, get creative.  Also this of tans, black and white as safe and classic colors. Oxford shoes were big and great investment for your closet!

Men’s hats were trendy during this time with newsboys’ caps, fedoras, bowlers and top hats.  Big ties, bow ties and handkerchiefs add a great touch.
